Catch Pole: Port used in the TCP [RFC793] to name the ends of logical connections which carry long term conversations. I was concerned that maybe she had a critter or malware/spyware on her computer.

She may have netmeeting/video connections enabled as you pointed out.

Next time we talk I will direct her towards checking her Windows Services to see if Netmeeting is enabled.

" These high end remote ports are all RPC and Windows Messenger ports." Thank you for this info I did some "what is" googling and now have a better understanding of RPC.

When my friend signs on to her Windows Live Messenger I get hits on random ports and the firewall blocks them. XXX Port 1503 some other ports to give an example are 1185, 16 Direction Incoming: Blocked. I sort of understand that I have given the permission for the program to run on my end but was wondering if her machine is doing something wrong or a security issue with her machine since it appears to be wanting to access my computer on a nonstandard port. All my other contacts are running the same version and are updated and there are no alerts from them when they sign in.

Thanks Take Care Celeste Operating System: Windows XP Pro Software Version:5.x Product Name: Zone Alarm (Free)These high end remote ports are all RPC and Windows Messenger ports.

Ask your friend if she is using or some server or maybe the netmeeting/video connnections are enabled. These are usually allowed outbound and block inbound. the netopia vo1 is really a Netopia Virtual Office port and the Intel Pro Share is a video/conferencing and Databeam is part of Net Meeting or an add on for Net Meeting. Oldsod Message Edited by Oldsod on AMOldsod: Thank you for your response.

Also realized that I forgot I could have googled the port numbers but I don't think I would have understood what the designations mean. In which case as you have correctly said, it should block all unwanted inbound.
